My group role progression & final thoughts on this brief

Roles I initially was meant to be in-charge of the branding, and styling of the 3D environments. However the further we got into the project the more the group broke apart. This is when I noticed that we did not have anything except 3D environments, so I asked the group and we all thought it would be a good idea for me to create a catalogue of students work, that could be downloaded or printed off. What I learnt/explored I learnt basic A-Frame, which is something I have never used before. I also tried some 3D modelling, this did not go very well, but it's something new that I tried. Finally I used InDesign more in-depth, and explored the interactive side of the software, which I did not really know was a thing before this project.  Reflection Throughout this project I have looked into and explored lots of things that I have not before this brief. To be honest I found this brief really difficult because the client changed their opinions multiple times, and then the group fell apart....

Presentation feedback

Image
Notes Loses personality in the zine in the final version The styling is very dependent on the staff We are meant to be supporting fashion and design (Check last recording or notes) I am overall very confused by the feedback, as we all were under the assumption that we were working for the FIMS course, but Brendan and the other tutors there said we were doing Fashion and Design.  I then emailed Manuel and he also said that he was confused.  At the point that we are at within this project (The end) there is not much that I can do to rectify this problem, it seems like maybe a  miscommunication. Especially because my whole section of the project is dependent on the FIMS course, as I made it match the course.   I

09/05/2021 Break up of the group (Glenn)

So, it is the day before our final presentation and Glenn has decided to tell us suddenly that we are no longer doing one presentation video, instead we are doing separate ones.  This is highly unprofessional and irritating. He waited until last minute to tell us, and I fully believe that he would not have told us at all if I had not asked within our group chat about it.  He was meant to be editing our videos together, Sophie Knight and Jo both offered to edit it together instead of him, and he still refused. I swear this is absolutely awful team work. He is not a team player at all. I understand that he may not have wanted to be in a group, but we are.  He also sees no problem with the fact that he did not tell us of this change in plans. I understand that he is going through a difficult time at the moment, but we all offered to help, and he could have messaged us earlier about this. He found out on Wednesday and chose to not tell us until Sunday.  I'm sorry but tha...

Week 12 Presentation prep

Image
I began the prep for the presentation by making the power point presentation that it was going to be based upon. As I was going first I decided to do a recap of the initial idea, so I asked everyone in the group to send me a bit of text that explained what their part of the project was. Glenn did not send me anything. I then started to build up the slides, by adding small bits of text and imagery.  I also made sure that the theme matched the branding of the project, by using the same colour scheme. Script Next I wrote the script here it is: 1. Hello, I’m Sophie Husteden, and I’ve been working on the branding, and the student catalogue. 2. So as a quick recap of the project, we are creating a virtual exhibition.  This will include a downloadable catalogue of students work. A virtual exhibition space that will have spaces to showcase each student work in an immersive environment. We will also have a gallery area that will be used to showcase students work. We also will...

Putting together final catalogue

Image
So I began by making an initial blocking of what my layout would be. I just made this in Indesign.   I then started to put together the final pages, I did this by making assets that fit the sizes of the boxes that I had planned out. I made these assets through many different ways. Such as I used the liquify tool in Photoshop and mixed colours to create the big pieces. Or I used the polygonal lasoo tool to create ripped page effects in certain shapes.  Once I had filled the basic boxed shapes, I started to make some extra assets to fill in the space around the areas, such as the tape pieces or extra boxes.  I forgot to take any screenshots unfortunately as I tend to get very immersed in making it.

Initial catalogue style

I decided to make an initial catalogue, just to test out some layouts and some more interactive parts that I could use. I did this because I do know Indesign fairly well, however I have not used it in a more in-depth way before.  I just used some placeholders as I had not found any of the students work yet and this was just a quick version.  I found this really useful to do as it allowed me to play around with Indesign as I have not used it to make a magazine style project since I was in College. I also used the interactive part to add hyperlinks that allowed there to be functional buttons for the contents page, which is an area of Indesign I have not used before.

Creating the catalogue (Research Scrapbooks)

Image
A scrapbook is a method of preserving, presenting, and arranging personal and family history in the form of a book, box, or card. Typical memorabilia include photographs, printed media and artwork.  I really like the way that scrapbooks are so personal. I also really like the way that they are laid out, people really put a lot of their own style into them. I saw a lot of them with little drawings that were done by the creators, which I thought added a really nice touch to them.  I also really liked the way that they layered things over each other, so they overlapped, this creates a really cool effect and makes it look very aesthetic. Another thing that I really liked was the use of tape over edges of photos, this created a really nice touch that makes it look homemade.
