Hello, I’m Sophie H, and my role in the team is branding, illustrator, and researcher.
The problem-
The problem that we want to solve is how COVID 19 has affected large social events which means that many courses are unable to host an in-person end of year showcase.
We want to create an online interactive version of the showcase, that will allow people to effectively show their work, as if it were in-person.
Idea-
Within this project we want to create a virtual fashion studio that shows the room that the students work within, this will be a recreation of the New Adelphi L6 fashion room. This will be to show off the studio space that people work within, as well as showing it to potential new students that may not be able to visit the room in person.
We will also be creating a virtual catwalk experience that will be used to show the students work, we wanted to create a catwalk as it shows the clothing items in a creative and engaging way.
We also will be creating a display room that shows the work in a more simplistic way. This room will differ from the catwalk experience as it will show the students work in a simpler approach, as to make the work the centre of the room.
Manchester Metropolitan University Exhibition 2020-
We began the project by looking at some other university’s Exhibitions. One that we looked at was the Manchester Metropolitan Exhibition showcase for 2020. They called their exhibition ‘In Progress’. The whole thing was website based, which was easy to access and look around, the showcase is also shared between multiple courses. They had sections that showed the names of all the students under a certain course type, such as ‘Fashion’ then there was a page that showed just their work.
Overall, we liked this exhibition, however we want to create a more interactive and specialised to the course showcase.
Past years exhibitions-
We then looked at the past year’s exhibitions, we found the ones for 2017, 2018, and 2019. These were all held in-person, so they helped us to see how the exhibitions looked before. From the pictures you can clearly see there are lots of people attending the show, this shows that the social aspect is a big part of the showcases, so it is something that we should work on.
The pictures also shows that the layout of work is very creative, this means that we can have a more fun way of showcasing the work.
Another big part of the photos is that it is help within New Adelphi, so it is showing the building off as well as the students work, so it would be good to have an aspect of this within our project.
Visualisations-
We began choosing the stylistic parts of the project by creating a Pinterest board as a mood board to show the kind of styles that we think would look good for the exhibition. We all really liked the style of modern and industrial, which matches with the style of the New Adelphi building as it looks very modern, industrial and minimalistic.
